Quantum computers of huge power from IBM

The head of IBM says that in a few years the park of quantum computers of the company will be very extensive. And modern systems in terms of power will not even be able to come close to new technological solutions. And already today there are practical problems for this kind of systems.

There is information that soon the general public will be presented with a lot of quantum computers, which today are already being developed by IBM. As for computing power, the system will have up to 4000 qubits. This is the quantum analogue of a bit in a simple PC, familiar to the user. It is worth noting that the most powerful modern systems have reached an indicator of only 127 qubits.

Practice shows that quantum computers will primarily serve to use and optimize the routes of unmanned trucks. At the same time, it became possible to simulate financial risks, while the efficiency will be maximum. And if we take modern devices, then their size must be incredibly huge, and it would not be possible to place all the equipment in one room.

As for quantum processors from IBM, they are primarily based on the technology of superconducting qubits. And this is a development that was adopted back in the early 2000s. If we talk about computational processes, then they are initiated due to sequences of microwave pulses. But the physical specificity of the process requires operating conditions in temperature conditions close to zero. So industrial equipment must be kept in the refrigerator. And this is an important component of modern technology.

The company’s research suggests that this work is of increased complexity, and completely new methods for applying quantum computing should be used.

IBM introduced its first quantum computer

One of the most promising fields for the quantum realm is the stimulation of physical and chemical systems. But now the possibilities are still limited, so the practical application is somewhat difficult, that is, this is a deterrent for further development.

If we talk about the use of quantum computers, then there are actually quite a few areas, since there will always be tasks that require serious computing power. And practice shows that indeed the number of such tasks is only increasing, and this indicates real demand.

New architecture

If earlier it was said about the powers of 400 and 1000 qubits, then at the moment it is 4000. And of course, increasing the power requires an innovative design of processors. Now companies are working on creating developments in a hexagonal pattern, where the number of connections is reduced to the required minimum level. And this is necessary to reduce interference, which minimizes errors in operation.

And another innovation in this direction is the multiplexing of data reading. If earlier each qubit was equipped with a special set of electronic components that are responsible for recording information and reading the results of calculations.
