Digital holography

What is a hologram and where is it used?

Back in the late 40s, a physicist from Hungary tried to tell everything about this topic. And it was he who in the future began to be considered the founder of holography, and he created the world’s first hologram. Of course, the term belongs to him.

Of course, initially the quality of the holograms was not the best, because primitive gas-discharge lamps were used to create them. But in the 60s, everything changed for the better, as lasers appeared, and this led to the rapid development of holographic technologies. And the first high quality laser holograms appeared in 1968.

How is a hologram formed?

It’s worth starting right away with the fact that this is a special photography technology, thanks to which a three-dimensional image of certain objects is obtained. And this is possible due to certain properties of light waves:

  1. Diffraction.
  2. Interference.

During the visualization of the hologram, at a certain point, an addition of waves is created, namely, the object and the reference. They are obtained by splitting the laser beam.

In fact, a process similar in principle to the action is reflected on photographic film. But here, to reproduce the image, a printout is needed, and paper is used for this. In this case, you just need to illuminate the object with a wave close to the reference one.

Application of 3D Hologram

In fact, in the modern world, a hologram is a 3D projection of a three-dimensional image of a certain object. And already at the moment, the technology is beginning to be actively used in a variety of niches of human life and activity. And there are many examples, say, a hologram in the air. These are 3D pyramids or holographic models. A striking example of use is various kinds of exhibitions or conferences. And for this simple graphic projectors are used.

Operation of the holographic projector

Modern models of equipment can create a large number of three-dimensional effects. For example, it is worth highlighting holographic video projections, which are created by using transparent films of rear video projection. In the end, the picture is created almost in the air.

If we talk about the most modern solutions, then this is interactive holography, which forms the effect of creating a transparent surface hanging in the air.

And at the same time, technologies do not stand still and are constantly expanding, so we should expect a breakthrough in this area. Image quality is guaranteed to get better in the near future.

To take the most accessible example, it is laser holographic projectors in clubs that can create certain patterns. In combination with smoke, this creates an indescribable effect.

Hologram from the future

For some time now, there has been talk of creating holographic televisions. And new technologies will even allow you to talk with images. Already, many well-known companies are working on this. For example, Microsoft has its own holoportation technology. The bottom line is that you can see a three-dimensional image of the interlocutor in real time.
